This written history of the Page Cemetery was
a direct result of the planning and efforts of Gwendolyn (Billie)
Wanser Cronk. Billie came onto the cemetery board in 1982 and
was chairperson for the duration of her tenure. Billie’s
vision for the cemetery included; providing a written history
of the cemetery, asphalting the roads on the acreage, installing
an arch over the entrance that included the name, replacing the
old, original cinder block storage building with a new design,
erecting a directory that included the names of all the deceased
accompanied with a map for easy reference and lastly, developing
a computer data-base that would include the names of the deceased
so that they could be put on-line for worldly reference.
Billie
was assisted in these efforts by other members of her board that
included; Ben Asher, Junior Sorensen, Harold Asher, Everett Thompson,
Lyle Harvey, Fred Cronk and Diane Heiss. Amy Lockwood provided
the computer skills and donated her time to make the computer
database a reality.
One
cannot over-look the donations of hundreds of volunteers who have
given freely of their time and money through the years to make
the Page Cemetery what it is today. Each spring a “Page
Cemetery Cleanup Day” is held to repair the cemetery and
prepare it for the annual Memorial Day Celebration. These volunteers
can be praised for helping to make the Page Cemetery one of the
most beautiful and well-kept cemeteries in this area.
Through
the many years of the cemetery history, there are names that stand
out because of their dedication. These names include; Robert Gray,
R. J. Bryan, C. L. Wood, G. E. Hunter, P. E. Chase, George French,
O. W. French, David Bowen, F. M. Batman, Roy Wilson, William Neubauer,
Harold Kelly, Cordes Walker, Calvin Harvey, Richard Buxton, Margaret
Kelly, Fontelle Harvey, Marge Cork and Jeane Sorensen. We thank
all of these individuals as well as those whose names may have
inadvertently been omitted.
So,
we are proud to present to you the first written history of the
Page Cemetery. We realize this writing may include mistakes but
we hope they are minimal. If they are pointed out to us, we most
certainly will correct them. It is our hope that this first written
history may be a building block that will be added to and improved
on by future generations.
We
personally, would like to thank Billie for all she has done for
the Cemetery and the Page Community. We feel it is fitting and
right that we dedicate this written history of the Page Cemetery
to her. Thank you Billie for your; vision, your patience, your
dedication, your love of the Page Community and your guidance.
