Mrs Joan Agha is an Author, a Motivational Speaker, Certified Life Coach and a Certified Management Trainer. She is the Founder and President of Joan Agha Foundation and MD/CEO Joan Consulting. She attended Queen of Apostles Secondary School Ibadan, Nigeria from 1970 to 1974, where she was Senior Prefect; academically, she had distinctions. She furthered her education at the Universities of Benin and Lagos where she obtained her first degree in Business Administration and an MBA in General Management respectively. She has served the nation in various capacities; first, as School Teacher in the Federal Ministry of Education and School Inspector. Between 1993 and 1996, she worked in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as Administrative Manager in the Medical Services Department of the Bank. She thereafter joined the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company of Nigeria (SNEPCO) in 1998 and was later transferred to Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), where she worked as Editorial Services Adviser until her retirement in November 2011. Her Foundation, Joan Agha Foundation, organizes entrepreneurial capacity-building seminars for start-up Youths entrepreneurs among the NYSC members and SMEs women to enlighten them on the concept of entrepreneurship and how they can set up and develop their own businesses in the face of acute shortage of jobs. The Foundation has had these seminars in two and three editions respectively, and has thereby trained 800 NYSC members and 500 women. Through her Foundation-Joan Agha Foundation (JAF), she has empowered 33 youths through JAF educational scholarship scheme for brilliant indigent students, 58 women with soft loans without interest, and partnered with International Women Society and FavouredWorld to train 29 youths in skill acquisition. As part of her humanitarian activities, she provided twelve sewing machines to the Youth vocational training institute, Holy Family Parish, located in Kasungu, Malawi, East Africa, to empower orphans on vocational skills with about 450 orphans under their coverage. She also has a feeding initiative called JAF kitchen through which less privileged Nigerians are fed on the first day of every year. The initiative commenced operation in 2010, feeding 100 persons. Over the years, the Foundation has fed a population spanning up to 5,080 persons. In recognition of her philanthropic acts, she has been given the following awards: • ‘Award of Excellence’ by the Lagos Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women Organisation (LACCWO) • ‘Merit Award’ by the Leading Edge Academy • ‘Merit Award’ by the Lagos Archdiocesan Laity Council • ‘Merit Award’ by The National Council of Women Organisation in the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) of Nigeria • Conferment as ‘Oblate of the Redemptorist of Nigeria’ by Saints Michael, Raphael and Gabriel, Catholic Church, (Archangels), Satellite Town, Lagos. • ‘Women Most Supportive Personality’ by Delta Most Outstanding Performance to celebrate Nigeria at 100. • ‘Outstanding Contribution towards Less Privileged in Nigeria’ by Tellview Magazine. She is, indeed, a woman of sterling generosity.
